Water Softener Service

When choosing a water softener for your home, keep in mind that all water conditioners will deliver softened water. However, in order to maximize your water softeners efficiency, you need to factor in the size of your family, the size of the plumbing, the number of bathrooms, the gallon per minute demand on the system and lastly, a water test. Ideally, your new water softener will regenerate no sooner than once every 3rd day and as far out as 10 days. In the majority of cases a single tank water softener is more than adequate your families needs. In some cases it may be best to jump up into a twin tank softener. Families with 5 or more residents or homes with large whirlpool tubs or showers with multiple body sprayers will save more salt and water from going down the drain needlessly. These units will provide a continuous supply of softened water regardless of the demands on the system because they have two mineral tanks, one in service and one in standby. Once one tank depletes itself, regeneration is started bringing the standby tank online.

Having a water test is the most important factor to maintaining proper water softener service. We offer a free in home water analysis to size a system for your needs. In some cases, iron and odors can be present in the water supply, If this happens, you may need to install an Iron Curtain Filtration system. This filter is typically installed at the pressure tank, filtering all the water in the home. It’s like having city water without the chlorine. By removing the iron from your water, your water softener will continue to work at peak efficiencies.

Once you have your new water softener in place, you can maximize the life of the system by following a few basic maintenance procedures. First of all, keep the salt storage tank filled. Add more salt to the system once you start to see water in the salt storage tank. You may also experience power outages that will require resetting of the timer. Regenerations will typically occur around 2am. During the regeneration, you have water in the home however it is hard water during that time. Most families are not using the water during the early morning hours; therefore, you should not experience hard water. Finally, it would be a good idea to let the salt run low in the storage tank and clean it out on a periodic basis.

By following these few procedures will help to keep your water softener at peak efficiencies. You will also have a system that we expect to last 20 – 30 years with minimal service.
